Can the diesel generator set be filled with water in the water tank?

Recently, some customers have asked whether we can add water to our water tank instead of coolant, because the temperature in the south is indeed high and it is not easy to freeze. Today, I will give you a brief introduction here, but we recommend that coolant should be added if conditions permit.

Requirements for adding water to the coolant of diesel generator sets:

        1. Do not add well water or sewage. Water can be divided into hard water and soft water according to whether it contains dissolved minerals. Hard water contains ions such as iron, calcium, and magnesium. Untreated well water and spring water belong to hard water. If this kind of hard water is added to the engine, after the engine is heated and evaporated, compounds such as calcium carbonate and calcium sulfate will be produced, which will precipitate and form scale. On the one hand, scale is a poor conductor of heat. On the other hand, when the scale increases to a certain extent, it will narrow the pipeline and reduce the water flow, which will affect the heat dissipation of the engine and cause the engine to overheat. The sewage contains mud and rotten organic matter, which is easy to corrode the water tank and the cylinder water jacket, affecting their service life.

        2. Don't leave it alone. Don't run without water. When driving in hot weather, the coolant in the water tank evaporates faster. Always check the coolant level and observe the coolant temperature gauge. If the water tank is not completely filled, there will be problems with the coolant circulating in the water jacket, and the water temperature will easily rise, causing "boiling". For some models, it is not easy to fill up when adding water. The water tank is located lower than the engine. When adding water, the water tank filling port shows that it is full, but in fact there is no water in the engine water jacket.

        3. Don't open the lid rashly when the water tank "boils". Because when it "boils", the temperature in the water tank is very high (at least 100℃) and the pressure is high. If the water tank cap is suddenly opened, boiling water and water vapor will spray out rapidly, which may scald the person adding water. When "boiling" occurs, it should generally be idle, and the engine temperature should be lowered before opening the lid to add coolant. If time is tight, you can first cover the radiator cap with a wet cloth, then wrap your hands with a wet towel, and then slowly open the radiator cap. In addition, the speed of adding coolant should not be too fast, but should be added slowly.

        4. Do not spill water on the engine when adding water. When adding water, if water is spilled on the engine's spark plug socket, high-voltage wire jack, and distributor, it may affect sparking; water splashing on the drive belt may also cause it to slip; spilling on the engine body may also cause the engine body to deform or even crack.
